From Dept. of Public Works:
On June 18th, weather permitting, BGE will begin mobilizing to reinforce and upgrade the existing gas main infrastructure on Market St.
Preliminary work will involve the pruning of trees and the test pitting of utilities along the proposed trench. BGE is working closely with the City of Annapolis Urban Forester to ensure that all work around these well-established trees on Market St is done with the utmost care and respect for the health of these trees. Several areas will have steel plates in place for the duration of the project, including the sidewalk abutting City Hall. All plates will be ramped with cold mix asphalt to prevent tripping hazards and any plates within the roadway will be spiked in place to prevent movement.
This work will take approximately four to six weeks, weather permitting. There will be minor impacts to pedestrian traffic during the course of this project. Market St will need to be closed from 9 am to 3 pm, Monday through Friday to allow work to be completed safely. Emergency vehicles will not be able to pass and should plan alternate routes.
Upon completion of this work, BGE will be milling and overlaying the entire portion of the parking lane.
BGE has mailed to about 105 residents in the project scope and surrounding area. This letter contains a contact number and email address for residents if they have any questions or concerns. I have also copied the letter directly into this email below for your convenience.
I will send out weekly reminders about the road closure and any impact to pedestrian traffic.
Thank you all for your patience with this project.

BGE is upgrading the underground natural gas equipment near you along Market Street. The work on Market Street will be in the parking lane on the from Duke of Gloucester to Union Street. This project is part of BGE’s routine inspection, maintenance and upgrade program that allows for the continued safe and reliable delivery of natural gas to customers.
Work by BGE will begin on or about June 18, 2018 and will continue for the next four weeks or so, dependent on the weather. Over the course of the project, we will be conducting road work and spot excavations to access underground equipment. This may necessitate temporary lane closures and metal plates to cover excavations in off hours. Any vehicle access or parking restrictions will be posted on-site in advance of work. You may experience some noise, dust and light debris. We will work to minimize the disturbance and we appreciate your patience during construction.
Once the work is complete, BGE will restore roads, lawns and concrete disturbed by the work.
If you have any questions, please contact BGEPipeline@bge.com or call BGE at 800.685.0123 and reference the gas main replacement program and your address. A member of the project team will respond to your inquiry. I thank you in advance for your understanding and patience as we complete this important safety and reliability project.
